Job Description

The Development Coordinator (role) is an important component of the overall management of donor development  for the Kansas City Center for Inclusion (KCCI). The primary role is to deliver a high-impact donor program for KCCI.    The Development Coordinator is not a member of the Board of Directors, but may attend Board Meetings. The Development Coordinator is not a paid employee of the KCCI organization. The role is fully volunteer-based and estimated to be 4-6 hours per week.  


The Development Coordinator is responsible for managing information and databases, supporting donor engagement, communication, stewardship and retention strategies, producing fundraising data, and leading resource development projects and events.

  • Maintain a development calendar to manage key relationships

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of current trends, best practices and emerging technologies in fundraising, and apply that knowledge to KCCI development strategy

  • Lead donor engagement and retention projects

  • Support the production of donor publications, including brochures, newsletters, thank you letters, annual appeal, and press releases.

  • Prepare and distribute charitable tax receipts, thank you cards and stewardship follow up.

  • Coordinate donor database, and maintain notes on key relationships

  • Administration of the donor database (including data entry, queries and lists, tax receipting, data analysis and creating reports as required)

  • Responding to donor needs and inquiries, and maintaining regular communication with donors

  • Implement sponsorship recognition strategies

  • Maintain communication with existing and prospective corporate sponsors that encourages engagement and eventually, increased support

  • Plans and carries out cultivation and stewardship activities designed to convey the purpose, impact and needs of the organization clearly and effectively

  • Perform other related duties as required and directed

  • Responsible for continued efforts in the enhancement of the public image of KCCI and the KCCI Community Center.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • A personal motto of ethics, transparency, and high integrity.

  • Three or more years of nonprofit and fund development experience.

  • Solid, hands-on skills in analysis, decision-making, and reporting.

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Google Suites; ie, calendar, sheets, docs, contacts and email application.  

  • Experience working within LGBTQ+ communities highly desired
