April 23, 2019
MISSION, Kan. (April 23, 2019)
 - Support Kansas City, Inc. (Support KC) is pleased to announce that William (Bill) Moore, PhD, has been selected as the new President and CEO of the organization following an extensive Selection Committee search.
Moore who currently serves as president of The Strategy Group, a consulting organization to foundations, nonprofits, and communities, is an experienced nonprofit leader who has held positions within the nonprofit, governmental, and philanthropic sectors. He has served as a foundation executive, nonprofit leader, and advisor to national and local nonprofits. Moore has been a senior leader in the Kansas City nonprofit community and served previously on Support Kansas City's board of directors, including tenure as board president. Moore has served as senior fellow at the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership and has extensive experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, Theory of Change, fund development, and board best practices.
"First, I wish to honor and acknowledge the tremendous foundation of success set by the Support KC team - Board and staff. Through their efforts Support KC has established a well-deserved national reputation for high quality, personalized services and supports for the nonprofit community in the Midwest. The work Support KC does allows hundreds of nonprofits to focus on their mission knowing that the complexities of running a nonprofit organization are handled with unparalleled attention to the details, integrity, quality and care. All members of the Support KC team feel honored to be asked to help our client partners achieve their vision for a better Kansas City.
After decades of work supporting nonprofits, foundations, schools and health care organizations in Kansas City and around the country I am excited to be joining Support KC to pursue their vision of a high performing, sustainable nonprofit community. Nonprofits continue to struggle with the impact of changing regulations and tax reform, financial and programmatic sustainability, increasing competition for dollars as the number of nonprofits increase annually, adapting to the evolving funding priorities of foundations and other funders, and demonstrating the impact of nonprofit services for beneficiaries. While these challenges exist there are many reasons to be hopeful! Nonprofits continue to have an outsized influence on the national economy - both in terms of GDP (around 6%), workforce (10% of the nation's workforce) and revenue (close to a trillion dollars each year). Nonprofits exist for all the right reasons - when there is nowhere else to turn nonprofits are the safety net for the most vulnerable and under-resourced in our communities. Nonprofits regularly seek to represent the voices of the underrepresented and under-served and when nonprofits collaborate and form alliances and networks profound change happens, people are much better off, and our nation's core values are most evident. Support KC exists to help our nonprofit clients and colleagues achieve this ideal.
In the coming months and years Support KC will double-down on what we have always done - provide our clients with the very best services and supports - and we will look for new ways to stretch our wings - new paths of growth, new services and supports for our clients and the broader community, and new regions to make a difference for those we serve and those served by our partners."
"We are thrilled to welcome Bill as the President and CEO of Support KC," said Todd Burton, board president of Support KC. "Bill brings to the role a longstanding commitment to increasing the capacity of nonprofit in Greater Kansas City area, along with outstanding leadership experience and the ability to plan strategically to meet the needs of our client community, foundation partners, and funders."
