About Us

For more than 40 years, Rainbow School has been a trusted part of the Waldo community, offering high-quality early childhood education and a vibrant summer camp experience. We believe children thrive when they feel safe, valued, and inspired, and we’re proud to provide a place where families know their children are both learning and loved.
Early Childhood Center:
Our early childhood program serves children from infancy through pre-kindergarten, with part-time care (8:45 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) designed to fit the rhythms of family life. Guided by a play-based, emergent curriculum, our classrooms nurture the whole child—supporting social-emotional growth, early literacy, mathematical thinking, creativity, and curiosity. Our teachers are the heart of Rainbow School. With years of experience and a deep love for children, they create welcoming classrooms where every child feels seen and supported. One specific offering we have is our Outdoor Classroom where our little learners can help grow our vegetable gardens and enjoy nature-based play that includes a water creek, sand pit, labyrinth, and a tree log course. We have also partnered with Kansas City Community Garden and The Giving Grove.
Over the Rainbow Summer Camp:
When school is out, the learning and fun continue at Over the Rainbow Summer Camp. Designed for adventure and friendship, our camp blends creative activities, outdoor play, field trips, and community events. Each week has a theme to keep camp fresh and exciting, and our dedicated counselors—many of whom teach during the school year—bring both energy and experience.
