Join us for a Boba Break!
An AANHPI roundtable for all KC Metro Nonprofits serving the Asian Community to unite and discover where our missions overlap and align in order to best support each other. A rising tide lifts all boats, and when we all succeed, our community that we all so deeply care about does too.
Whether you are a first-generation, 1.5-generation, second-generation, third-generation AANHPI immigrant/refugee or if your family has been living in America for decades, as an AANHPI-identifying individual, you likely have much experience navigating the beautiful differences and complexities of American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and Asian cultures. All are invited to be in community with us!
*Enjoy complimentary boba drinks crafted by Café Cà Phê! Donations are never expected, but always appreciated*
Meet the facilitator:
Béty Lê Shackelford: Founder and Executive Director of Hella Good Deeds, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to elevating the growing presence of Asian culture in Kansas City by celebrating our heritage, amplifying our narrative, and connecting our community. Before establishing Hella Good Deeds, Bety advocated for and celebrated the Midwest AANHPI community through her pro bono work as Café Cà Phê's Director of Community Outreach, while serving as KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas's Political Director and Campaign Manager. Prior to community-driven work, Bety received her BFA in acting at CalArts and lived in LA and NYC to pursue a career in film/tv and stage for 10+ years. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity Association with highlights including Pretty Little Liars, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the National Tours of Cathy Rigby is Peter Pan and Disney's The Little Mermaid. Fun fact: She is a National Champion Synchronized Swimmer, and in 2017 she was cast as the Ariel double, had a showmance with the Eric understudy/double, eventually married him, and now they have a wonderfully wild and wacky 3 year old daughter who they absolutely adore.
