Flourish Furniture Bank – Sewing Volunteer
As a Sewing Team volunteer, you’ll help repair and repurpose donated bedding, linens, and cushions to provide a fresh start for our clients. Beginners are welcome and can assist by cutting fabric or completing simple projects like placemats and pillowcases, while more experienced sewers can tackle advanced tasks such as refitting sheets or reupholstering furniture. This creative, hands-on role is perfect for those who enjoy sewing, want to learn new skills, and love making a tangible difference.
KCBAS 5k/1 MIle Walk
Volunteer at the 8th Annual KCBAS 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk on September 19, 2026 at the Kansas State School for the Blind, Kansas City, KS! Support blind and visually impaired youth by helping with course monitoring, packet pick-up, water stations, parking, registration, set-up, clean-up, and more. Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Dock Team
Dock Team Volunteer Responsibilities: As a Dock Team volunteer, you will take an active role in loading moving trucks and vehicles with donated household goods and furnishings for our clients. You may also assist with accepting and unloading incoming donations. This position requires the ability to lift furniture and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Dock Team volunteers are essential to ensuring donated items reach the families who need them most.
Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Sorting Team
As a member of the Sorting Team, you’ll help sort, organize, and clean small household items for our guests. Volunteers also inspect donations for needed repairs, restock showroom shelves, and create attractive seasonal displays. This role is a great way to make a direct impact, keep our showroom organized and welcoming, and work alongside a friendly and dedicated team. Your work brings comfort and warmth to every home we serve.

As part of the Merchandising Team, you’ll use your keen eye for detail and trauma-informed mindset to thoughtfully stock and arrange household items on our showroom shelves. Your goal is to create an inviting, accessible, and dignified shopping experience for every guest, taking care to consider the needs and backgrounds of families who may be starting over after difficult circumstances. This role is perfect for those who want to combine creativity and compassion.
Flourish: A Furniture Bank – Woodworking Team
As a volunteer in the Woodworking Department, you’ll help repair, restore, and refinish wooden furniture and household items to ensure they are sturdy, safe, and beautiful for our clients. Volunteers may fix broken legs, reinforce joints, sand surfaces, apply finishes, and complete minor assembly tasks. This hands-on role is perfect for those who have a willingness to learn a new skill or enjoy working with tools, have an eye for craftsmanship, and want to make a tangible difference.

As part of the Upholstery Repair Team, you will help restore and repair upholstered furniture to ensure every item is in excellent condition for our clients. Volunteers mend tears, replace fabric, fix cushions, and perform other repairs to sofas, chairs, and more. This role is ideal for those with a willingness to learn a new skill or those with sewing or upholstery skills who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in bringing new life to donated items.
Community Food Partner Assistant
Each day more than 10 Community Food Partners pick up rescued produce from Kanbe's to bring back to their organizations and serve members of the Kansas City community. This opportunity is a great way to work face to face with those feeding our neighbors! We are looking for individuals to join us daily in assisting our operations team in preparing food pallets and loading Community Food Partners vehicles out of our warehouse space.

Individual Volunteer Opportunity: CASA Advocacy and Volunteer Opportunities
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are appointed by judges to support children in foster care. They meet regularly with their assigned child, consult with professionals, and gather information from families and placements, spending about 10–12 hours per month. General volunteers also help CASA through events, committees, and donation drives.
