Board Basics, Part 1 (2015)


This two-part program explores the nuts and bolts of what it means to be a part of a nonprofit board. We encourage you to attend both sessions, however it is not required. The second session is Wednesday, February 25 from 2:30 - 5:00 PM. You must register separately for each of the two sessions. 

Are you relatively new to board service? Are you considering serving on a nonprofit board?
                 
Most would agree that serving on a board is an excellent way to have a substantial and ongoing impact in your community. It's also an effective way to grow your professional network, develop leadership skills and share your expertise.

Set yourself up for success! This is your chance to get the answers to all the questions you have, and some you didn’t even know you had, about serving on a nonprofit board. The nonprofit board governance concepts to be covered are:

Session 1:

  • Intro to Boards,
  • Roles/Responsibilities,
  • Legal Issues,
  • Board/CEO relationship
Session 2:
  • Nonprofit Finance
  • Board vitality 
  • Fundraising responsibilities
  • Finding meaningful opportunities.
Our skilled presenter, Carol Suter, is a well-known, experienced nonprofit consultant, executive, and board member. She is also a current council member and former mayor of the City of Gladstone MO. Carol has also recruited several other local nonprofit experts to join her in covering the board service topic:
