Weekday Volunteers

If you have never volunteered at The Sewing Labs before, please sign up for an Orientation for First-Time Volunteers first.

Available roles:

Donations Organizers help receive, weigh, and sort donated fabric, machines, and sewing notions. They also prepare these materials for classroom use in a variety of ways such as rolling fabric and testing notions for usability

Quilters sort, prepare, quilt on our Gammill long-arm machine, and bind a variety of quilts. They also help maintain an inventory of quilting tools and fabric.

Sewing Machine Testers check the basic working order of donated machines and assess the machines’ value.

Sewing Machine Maintainers perform routine maintenance cleaning, lubricating, and changing oil or parts. They also help troubleshoot problems independently or with staff support.

Sewists assemble or sew TSL community outreach kits and other special projects. Outreach kits include children’s activity bags and walker bags for St. Luke’s Auxiliary, pillowcases for local senior centers, and navigation bags sewn for homeless outreach in partnership with Volunteer KC.

This Volunteer Opportunity is promoted by Nonprofit Connect.
