Location: Hybrid: 2 days in-office - Kansas City, MO / 3 days remote (after initial 90 days)
The salary: All levels of experience and corresponding salary up to $75,000 considered, plus great benefits
Status: Full-time or Part-time, salaried exempt – we are open to discussing your needs, whether it’s full time (40 hours), four 8-hour days (32 hours), five 6-hour days (30 hours), or something else. Let’s find the intersection of your needs and ours.

The Role - YVC is entering a period of exciting growth, expanding to 20 new cities in the next 12 months. This position (title to be determined between the candidate and the CEO) will be the financial heartbeat of YVC. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll manage our $2M budget and ensure our financial integrity is rock-solid as we enter a period of exciting growth! You won’t just crunch numbers. You’ll be a strategic advisor, helping us make a bigger impact.
 
What We Hope You Bring to YVC

  • The Foundation – Have an accounting degree or relevant accounting experience; be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien. If you know nonprofit accounting, grant compliance/restricted funds, QuickBooks Online, and have proficiency with Excel, you’ll hit the ground running. If you don’t have experience with some of those items but can learn and absorb, we can train you.

What You’ll Do
ACCOUNTING
  • Prepare annual organizational budget. Assist with development of program budgets and grant budgets.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financials in collaboration with external accounting firm.
  • Prepare financial and management reports and variance explanations for the CEO and the Board. Provide financial insights, data analysis, and serve as a financial advisor to the CEO.
  • Oversee online payments for summer program participation, monthly invoices/checks (minimal), and credit card payments. Oversee receipt and processing of deposits (minimal) and online donations for an annual event.
  • Complete a monthly quality review of GL coding, journal entries, and restricted fund releases. Review monthly bank reconciliations completed by accounting firm.
  • Monitor income and expenses on an ongoing basis. Prepare actual expense projections.
  • Maintain accurate records of restricted funds and ensure grant compliance. Advise accounting firm on appropriate release of restricted funds. Ensure an accurate net asset roll-forward schedule.
PAYROLL & BENEFITS (May be handled by this position or possibly another employee)
  • Manage YVC compensation through Paycor. Process and submit semi-monthly payroll. Gather and submit quarterly payroll tax paperwork to payroll company. Work with state and federal entities for any withholding tax issues/questions.
  • Work with insurance and retirement firms to effectively manage employee benefits. Fund employee retirement and manage employee PTO.
AUDIT
  • Oversee annual audit independently. Collaborate with accounting firm and audit team.
  • Either independently or with assistance from the accounting firm, prepare deferred revenue schedule, depreciation schedule, PTO annual reconciliation, 941 reconciliation, benefit documentation, and functional expense allocation.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Monitor and ensure strong internal controls are being followed consistently.
990
  • Complete the organization’s annual 990 in collaboration with the external accounting firm or if desired, independently.
SUMMIT
  • Support YVCHQ’s annual international conference “Summit” through special projects assigned to each YVCHQ team member based upon role and strengths.
