About Us:
The Arts Council of Johnson County (ACJC) is a nonprofit organization with its office located at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center in Overland Park, KS. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in Johnson County by strengthening the arts. Guided by our mission and core values of community, creativity, quality of life, and stewardship, ACJC presents programming, convenes the community around issues that impact the arts, and advocates for arts and creativity.
 
Position Overview: 
This hybrid role blends program coordination, outreach, and advocacy, offering a unique opportunity to strengthen the arts in Johnson County and make a positive impact in our community. As part of a small but mighty team, the Program and Community Engagement Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. The position plays an integral role in building partnerships, facilitating impactful programming, and amplifying the arts. Examples of ACJC programs include: Shooting Stars Recognition, Scholarship and Awards program, Place of Peace veterans exhibit, Canvas Collective, and Arts Business Basics. The ideal candidate values the Arts and is community-focused, thrives in a collaborative environment, is detail-oriented, and highly organized with experience in communications, event coordination, and project management.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination, Management & Facilitation – Design, support, and lead programs and initiatives, ensuring accessibility and impactful experiences for participants.
  • Community Partnerships & Outreach – Nurture, strengthen, and develop partnerships across sectors that support ACJC’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Communications & Branding – Assist with managing social media, craft compelling content, develop promotional materials, and contribute to graphic design efforts that showcase ACJC’s work.
  • Administrative & Operational Support – Help track engagement, maintain program logistics, and assist with day-to-day operations.
 Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills to engage with artists, nonprofits, and stakeholders.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in arts programming, event management, or nonprofit work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, embracing flexibility in a small-team environment.
  • Must be able to work effectively within the nonprofit framework, with culturally diverse audiences and community services organizations, and with individual artists.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of project management.
  • Graphic design skills are preferred but not required.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong accuracy level and thoroughness.
  • Highly organized - values systems and checklists.
  • Ability to multitask and learn quickly.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Accountability in areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, and work autonomously with minimum supervision.
  • Problem solving, solution-oriented, and positive.
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience with current computer equipment and programs, including, but not limited to:
    • Microsoft Office Suite products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows)
    • Familiar with Google suite (Gmail, calendar, Google Docs, etc.)
    • Familiarity with database management, Salesforce preferred.
    • Familiarity with Zoom meeting management.
    • Ability to learn and utilize web-based software quickly, including social media management and design tools.
Job Details:
Status: Regular part-time, non-exempt. Position has room for growth, could potentially become full-time at 40 hours a week.
Schedule: 30-35 hours per week. Mon-Fri, daily hours are flexible between 8 am-5 pm, some evenings, and weekends.
Compensation: $22 per hour ($34,320 – $40,040)
Benefits: Paid time off (PTO) and an insurance stipend
