Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Site Director, the Youth Development Leader is responsible for planning, leading, and evaluating activities and programs for children in a licensed afterschool site. This role requires a strong commitment to youth development principles, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, and fostering positive relationships with participants, families, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
o Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational and educational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, academic support, and social development programs.
o Ensure activities are age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and align with the goals of the program.
o Adhere to state licensing regulations and organizational policies.
o Provide direct supervision to participants, putting safety of children first, never leaving children unattended or in harm’s way.
o Administer first aid and respond to emergencies as needed, following established protocols.
o Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a respectful and cooperative atmosphere and address behavioral issues in a constructive and timely manner.
o Document and report incidents according to organizational guidelines.
o Build positive, supportive relationships with youth, acting as a role model and mentor.
o Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to foster strong partnerships.
o Collaborate with team members to ensure a cohesive and supportive work environment.
o Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents.
o Ensure compliance with all licensing requirements and organizational policies, including confidentiality and child protection standards.
o Participate in regular staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
o Must be at least 21 years of age.
o Requires the ability to work well and communicate with supervisory staff, children, and parents.
o Requires skills in directing and conducting recreational activities to engage youth in programs.
o Must pass a background check and meet Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for child care workers.
o CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Working Conditions:
· Physical activity is required, including standing, walking, and participating in activities with youth.
