Deputy Director- Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund (MFAF)


Location: Kansas City, MO (with frequent regional travel)
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary

The Deputy Director is a key leadership role responsible for the day-to-day internal operations of MFAF. This position serves as a partner to the Executive Director, ensuring that the organization’s administrative, financial, and programmatic functions are executed with excellence. The Deputy Director will manage the "engine" of the non-profit—from grant reporting and payroll to office management and fundraising—allowing the organization to increase its impact for migrant and seasonal farmworkers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Administrative & Operations Management

  • Grant Management: Lead the preparation and submission of grant applications; track deliverables and draft reports for foundation and government funders.
  • Financial Support: Assist with bookkeeping, budget monitoring, and financial reporting. Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with non-profit financial standards.
  • Office Administration: Manage daily office operations, including vendor relationships, equipment maintenance, and organizational record-keeping.
  • Digital Presence: Maintain and update the MFAF website and social media channels to ensure visibility and accurate information for donors and clients.

2. Strategic Leadership & Fundraising
  • Fundraising Development: Brainstorm and execute new fundraising initiatives and donor engagement strategies to diversify revenue streams.
  • Executive Support: Act as the primary deputy to the Executive Director, assuming leadership duties in their absence and assisting with long-term strategic planning.
  • Program Alignment: Ensure all programs (Health, Legal, Youth Development, and Hunger Relief) align with the annual budget and mission goals.

3. Program Support & Field Advocacy
  • Site Visitation: Travel regularly (minimum 60 miles each way) to program sites and orchards to monitor service delivery, meet with farmworkers, and assess community needs.
  • Immigration Advocacy: Utilize knowledge of immigration law to assist the team in navigating complex client cases and maintaining legal referral networks.

Qualifications
  • Bilingualism: Fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal) is strictly required.
  • Experience: At least 3–5 years of leadership or management experience, ideally within a small non-profit environment.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Familiarity with U.S. immigration law, DACA, or farmworker rights is highly preferred.Operational Skills: Demonstrated experience in grant writing, basic financial management, and office operations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with website management (e.g., WordPress/Wix), social media, and financial software.
  • Mobility: Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle, with the willingness to drive 60+ miles regularly for site visits.
