Job Summary:

The Grants Manager is a strategic member of the development team, responsible for leading the full lifecycle of institutional grants management, including research, proposal development, submission, reporting, and stewardship. This role serves as the primary grant writer and administrator for foundation, corporate, government, and United Way funding. The Grants Manager works cross-functionally with the Development, Marketing, Finance, and Mission Delivery teams to align funding opportunities with Girl Scouts’ strategic priorities and community impact. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and strategic project manager with the ability to synthesize complex information, develop program budgets, ensure compliance with funder requirements, and manage multiple deadlines with precision.

 

Essential Functions:

Grant Strategy & Prospect Research

  • Manage a portfolio of 60–80 institutional donors and prospects, spearheading efforts to meet or exceed assigned revenue targets (initially ~8% of the $1.7M council goal in new gifts).
  • Research and qualify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, United Ways, and other institutional funders.
  • Evaluate and prioritize prospects based on strategic alignment, eligibility, funding history, competitiveness, and organizational capacity.
  • Develop and maintain a robust institutional pipeline to support annual revenue goals.
  • Maintain and manage a comprehensive, year-round grants calendar of proposal and reporting deadlines
Proposal Development & Submission
  • Write clear, compelling, and data-driven grant proposals and Letters of Intent tailored to funder guidelines and priorities.
  • Collaborate with program and finance staff to develop accurate program budgets and supporting documentation.
  • Compile, review, and submit complete and timely grant applications, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
  • Maintain a library of standardized language, "boilerplates," and organizational impact data to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Grant Administration & Reporting
  • Monitor awarded grants to ensure compliance with deliverables, financial reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate interim and final reports in partnership with program and finance teams.
  • Track outcomes, outputs, and impact data to demonstrate return on investment to funders.
  • Maintain organized records of all submissions, awards, communications, and documentation within Raiser’s Edge.
Relationship Management & Stewardship
  • Support cultivation and stewardship of institutional funders in collaboration with the Director of Development, Institutional Giving Manager, and other relationship managers.
  • Coordinate updates, site visits, recognition, and other stewardship activities to strengthen funder relationships.
  • Communicate grant activity, deadlines, and outcomes internally to support cross-departmental alignment.
  • Serve as a bridge between Development and Program teams to ensure everyone is aligned on grant-funded promises and expectations.
Data Management & Team Contribution
  • Maintain accurate institutional funder records in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Track portfolio performance, monitor key metrics, and contribute to development dashboards and revenue forecasting.
  • Stay informed of trends and best practices in institutional fundraising and grant compliance.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven team culture grounded in integrity, accountability, and enthusiasm for Girl Scouts.

  • Exceptional written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate program data, outcomes, and financial information into compelling grant narratives.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex deadlines and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission of proposals and reports.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Development, Marketing, Finance, and Mission Delivery staff.
  • Data literacy and the ability to analyze and interpret program metrics, budgets, and evaluation data to demonstrate impact.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills to support institutional funder stewardship and internal coordination.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to team goals and revenue targets.
  • Commitment to ethical fundraising practices and donor confidentiality.

Work Environment & Working Conditions:

  • This position is a remote-based position.
  • Employees must reside within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area and attend regular in-person meetings.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment with some exposure to outdoor conditions during events.
  • Work is performed in a normal interior environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dirt, dust, and extreme temperatures.
  • Monday through Friday including occasional evenings and weekends for events; hours are flexible

 

Physical Demands:

  • The person in this position will primarily work in seated and standing positions while using a computer and other office equipment for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of visual acuity for reading detailed documents, reviewing grant guidelines, and preparing written materials.
  • Occasional movement between meeting locations and workspaces during in-person meetings or events.
  • The person in this position may occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 10–15 lbs (such as event materials, files, or equipment).

 

Travel Required:

  • The person in this position will be required to travel on a scheduled and non-scheduled basis throughout the Council area.
  • This person must have access to reliable transportation and auto liability insurance at the minimum level in their state of residence.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of successful grant writing and management experience, including complex foundation, corporate, or government proposals (United Way experience preferred).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate programmatic data into compelling narratives.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience working with program metrics and budgets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated track record of securing competitive foundation, corporate, or government grants, including experience managing large or complex awards.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with program and finance teams.
  • Familiarity with the Kansas City philanthropic community preferred.
  • Experience with donor CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred).
  • A passion for the mission of Girl Scouts.

 

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Employment is dependent upon the results of a criminal background investigation.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Able to pass a child abuse background check in Kansas and Missouri.
