Position Summary: The Controller plays a primary role in managing and ensuring the integrity of financial operations of JFS, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and nonprofit accounting standards for this agency with an annual operating budget of more than 5 million. This position will play a key role in financial strategy, budgeting, month-end, quarterly and annual reporting, and safeguarding the organization's financial health to support its mission-driven activities. 

Essential Duties:

  • Manage and oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow projections, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management. .
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. 
  • Manage Accounts Payable process including interacting with vendors as needed, overseeing Accounts Payable platform, reviewing bills for accuracy/completeness, and processing bills for payment. 
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, the finance committee, the board of directors, and external stakeholders. 
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with department heads to ensure alignment with the organization's goals and financial sustainability. 
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis with recommendations for corrective actions. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and reporting requirements. 
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and preparing necessary documentation. 
  • Oversee grant financial management, including tracking expenditures, reporting requirements, and compliance with funder guidelines.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CEO, CFO, and Board of Directors for long-term planning and sustainability. 
  • Supervise and support finance staff, fostering professional growth and development. 
  • Manage organization cash flow and forecasting to support operational requirements. 
  • Support the CFO in coordinating the annual audits by preparing audit schedules and provision of requested audit evidence, and finalization of financial statements.
  • Ensure that JFSKC's program management and Board of Directors are supported with accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Remain current on GAAP accounting, reporting, and control best practices, HIPAA, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit financial operations. 
  • Support JFSKC's implementation of its strategic plan and other duties as assigned. 
Essential Education, Knowledge and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance,  or a related field required. CPA preferred.
  • Eight years or more of related experience in an agency/company of similar complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, including GAAP and fund accounting.
  • Experience with financial management software and tools, such as QuickBooks Online or similar systems. 
  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices desired. 
  • Tech-savvy, with aptitude for learning and implementing new technology platforms and tools. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
