Position Summary:?The 988 Community Educator is a full-time, non-exempt, 40-hour week position with primary work hours being Monday – Friday, 9am – 5 pm.  This position will have some evening and weekend hours.  Position will be required to travel to and attend local and state events, conferences, and donor relation activities.  This position will report to and will work in collaboration with the Statewide 988 Partnership Director. 

 Job Duties: Community Educator is a public facing position with the primary duty to ensure increased awareness and education of services offered by HeadQuarters Kansas and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.  This will be achieved through a combination of representation at community events, short overview presentations about the HeadQuarters Kansas organization, 988 and suicide prevention, as well as developing and maintaining partnerships with target communities and organizations serving relevant populations.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative culture; 
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel, as needed; 
  • Valid Driver’s license, clean driving records, and reliable transportation;? 
  • Must be able to pass State and Federal criminal background checks.? 

Responsibilities include: 

Events and Tabling – 70% 

  • Attend up to 85% of all scheduled community tabling events; 
  • Promote awareness and understanding of behavioral health needs and the importance of crisis support services within the community; 
  • Collaborate with Statewide 988 Partnership Team on current awareness priorities, campaigns, and events; 
  • Coordinate with coworkers on a calendar and schedule of outreach activities; respond to scheduling requests promptly; 
  • Occasionally provide brief individual support and referral to attendees at outreach activities; 
  • Track activity and statistical and demographic documentation of presentations, trainings, and other outreach activities; 
  • Prepare reports about all community outreach activities; 

Presentation – 15% 

  • Collaborate with team to create and deliver presentations, workshops, and training sessions to educate Kansas communities and partners about 988 and suicide prevention. 

Inventory and Promotional Materials – 10% 

  • Accurately controls and tracks physical inventory of promotional materials; 
  • Maintains and oversees inventory database to include quantity, type, merchandise, and/or supplies stocked; 
  • Package and mail promotional materials to fill requests from community partners; 
  • Research and request purchase orders of new promotional items. 

Other – 5% 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience; 
  • Demonstrate outgoing, energetic personality with excellent listening skills; 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite programs; 
  • Effective organization and time management skills; 
  • Ability to provide attention to detail; 
Experience with public presentations and speaking

Preferred Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human service-related field; 
  • Experience working with a nonprofit organization; 
  • Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
