Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Overview:
The Communications Associate supports the marketing and communications efforts of Truman Heartland Community Foundation (THCF), helping to implement projects that enhance visibility, strengthen brand identity, and share the impact of philanthropy across Eastern Jackson County and beyond.
This position plays a key role in executing the organization’s annual marketing plan — including the production of digital and print collateral, social media, newsletters, email campaigns, and website updates — ensuring all materials align with THCF’s brand and messaging standards. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, deadline-driven, creative, and passionate about community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Graphic Design & Publications
- Design and produce print and digital materials (brochures, flyers, invitations, event programs, signage, etc.) consistent with THCF brand guidelines.
- Coordinate production and printing, working with vendors as needed.
- Maintain templates, photo archives, and visual assets for staff use.
- Support the Director in updating and maintaining an organized library of collateral for all programs (Scholarships, Grants, Donor Advised Funds, Youth Advisory Council, Legacy Society, etc.).
Digital Media & Online Communications
- Implement approved content calendars for social media, email marketing, and web updates.
- Create and schedule social media posts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) and track performance analytics.
- Work to increase followers and engagement across platforms.
- Develop and send Constant Contact newsletters, email invitations, and announcements.
- Maintain portions of the THCF website, making routine content and graphic updates.
- Assist with digital analytics reporting (website traffic, social engagement, and email performance).
Administrative & Project Support
- Assist with assembling board and committee materials, mailings, and print projects that apply to the marketing department.
- Provide administrative support for marketing and event projects (e.g., mail merges, proofreading, vendor communications).
- Help prepare marketing reports and performance summaries for leadership and board review.
- Maintain project timelines and ensure tasks meet established deadlines.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to carry out the Foundation’s annual marketing plan.
- Communicate professionally with external vendors, printers, and community partners.
- Coordinate photography needs, assist with donor stories, and support video and event promotions.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging across all departments and campaigns.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in marketing, communications, or design (nonprofit experience a plus).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Office, and Canva.
- Experience using Constant Contact, Website editing familiarity, and social media management tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally work events outside of normal business hours.
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs. (event materials).
Salary/Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience and range is $45,000 to $50,000. Health Insurance, 401-k retirement plan with company match, paid time off plus 11 paid holidays.
