JOB SPECIFICATIONS 

  • Title:  Social Media and Engagement Manager 

  • Reports to: Chief Development Officer 

  • Department: Communications and Marketing, External Relations Division, Central Office 

  • Location: Remote (Kansas or Missouri) 

  • Classification & Status: Exempt, Full-Time 

  • Work Schedule: 40-hour work week, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM 

JOB SUMMARY 

The Social Media and Engagement Manager will report to the Chief Development Officer. This social media–focused role is responsible for executing SparkWheel’s Marketing and Communications Strategic Plan with an emphasis on social-first storytelling, digital engagement, and community connection. The position leads the planning, creation, and optimization of content across social platforms to elevate SparkWheel’s brand, increase visibility, and inspire action among key audiences. This role combines creative storytelling with analytics-informed strategy, managing social media content calendars, campaigns, and audience engagement efforts across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The Social Media and Engagement Manager ensures that content is authentic, mission-driven, and aligned with organizational goals. Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments, this position plays a key role in growing SparkWheel’s online community and advancing its mission through strategic, engaging, and consistent digital communication.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the planning, creation, and management of all social media content and engagement across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. 

  • Develop platform-specific strategies to increase visibility, engagement, and follower growth. 

  • Create compelling social campaigns that highlight SparkWheel’s mission, programs, and impact stories. 

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Campaigns and Strategy Manager to align campaign messages and timing across channels. 

  • Capture and curate photo, video, and multimedia content that drives storytelling and engagement. 

  • Engage directly with audiences through comments, messages, and community management to foster meaningful interaction. 

  • Track social media analytics, prepare reports, and use insights to inform strategy and optimize performance. 

  • Work with the Marketing Campaigns and Strategy Manager to update website and blog content to ensure alignment with digital campaigns. 

  • Support the execution of digital advertising, including Google Ad Grant management. 

  • Uphold brand consistency, accessibility, and tone across all online communications. 

We are looking for a hybrid professional who will create and curate engaging multimedia content that elevates SparkWheel's mission and work. This role ensures communications aren’t just well-written and designed, but also strategically delivered, measured, and optimized. Our Communications and Marketing team is growing, and we are looking for a collaborative, creative professional to join us.   

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

Social Media Strategy, Engagement, Analytics, and Optimization (50%) 

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive social media strategy that supports SparkWheel’s communications objectives. 

  • Plan and schedule content calendars, campaigns, and digital activations to support organizational initiatives and events. 

  • Write, edit, and post creative content optimized for each platform, including captions, visuals, and video scripts. 

  • Use analytics tools to track engagement, reach, and conversion, reporting key insights and growth trends. 

  • Monitor social and digital analytics to measure engagement and impact, providing monthly performance reports. 

  • Evaluate audience insights and adjust strategy to maximize engagement and reach, including audience segmentation and trend analysis. 

  • Stay current on emerging platforms, trends, and best practices to ensure SparkWheel’s digital presence remains innovative and relevant. 

  • Contribute to the creation of integrated marketing campaigns that blend social, email, and web channels. 

Content Creation and Storytelling (30%) 

  • Produce high-quality, brand-aligned digital content—including photos, short-form videos, graphics, and infographics—for social and web channels. 

  • Collaborate with internal teams to collect stories and translate complex information into accessible, engaging content. 

  • Support the development of blogs, newsletters, and multimedia storytelling pieces. 

  • Maintain a consistent visual and narrative identity across all digital assets. 

  • Partner with the Marketing Campaigns and Strategy Manager to ensure content aligns with campaign objectives. 

Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations (20%) 

  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer on public relations strategies and brand development. 

  • Support the Director of Donor and Media Relations in executing media campaigns. 

  • Attend key events and promote SparkWheel’s work and mission.  

  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives as directed.  

  • Completes other tasks and activities as assigned by the President and CEO or Chief Development Officer.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

Qualifications: 

At a minimum, the Social Media and Engagement Manager must have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field. In addition, the Social Media and Engagement Manager shall have: 

  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience successfully managing social media, digital communications, or content strategy – preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. 

  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful social media and audience engagement campaigns across multiple platforms. 

  • Strong understanding of social media analytics, content optimization, and digital storytelling best practices. 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva, as well as social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, Buffer). 

  • Experience with short-form video creation and editing (e.g., Reels, Tik Tok, YouTube Shorts). 

  • Skilled in writing, editing, and adapting content for various audiences and platforms, with a keen eye for tone, accuracy, and visual appeal. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing creativity with attention to deadlines and details. 

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. 

  • Dedication to relationship-building, teamwork, and working collaboratively while exercising initiative and creativity. 

  • Outstanding strategic thinking, creativity, and adaptability, with a passion for digital engagement and storytelling.
