Position Summary? 

MOPHI’s Membership Director will be responsible for driving membership engagement, retention, and growth for our statewide membership association, the Missouri Center for Public Health Excellence (MOCPHE), which has existed since 2013 and has nearly 50 member agencies. This role oversees the full membership lifecycle, starting with prospective membership recruitment, renewals, and long-term relationship management. The Membership Director develops strategy, leads outreach initiatives, analyzes membership trends, and ensures an exceptional member experience that supports the organization’s mission and revenue goals. 

Additionally, this position needs to understand the broader landscape of other public health and related associations in Missouri and will be responsible for identifying opportunities to align and promote not only MOCPHE’s role in the landscape but also the broader field of governmental public health. 

Historically, this position’s responsibilities have been shared among existing staff of MOPHI. This position marks our first time dedicating full-time support to the MOCPHE membership association and may be involved in efforts to expand the type of membership organizations we operate.  

This position will be expected to travel regularly throughout Missouri; this may include occasional travel to St. Louis for meetings with leadership and our members located in St. Louis, in addition to travel throughout the rest of the state for in-person meetings with MOCPHE members and other stakeholders important to the membership. 

Key Job Responsibilities 

Member Engagement and Experience  

  • Design and execute high quality membership meetings, including monthly membership meetings, Executive Committee meetings, and other ad hoc member meetings.  

  • Provide membership orientation on an as-needed basis. 

  • Maintain consistent communication through newsletters, events, and digital platforms; this will be done in close partnership with MOPHI’s Communications Manager. 

  • Support advocacy, education, or mission driven initiatives through member engagement. 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries, feedback, and opportunities to represent the membership organization in state-wide efforts and to partner organizations. 

  • Implement and execute systems to measure member satisfaction and improve service delivery. 

Member Strategy and Growth 

  • Develop and execute long-term membership growth plans aligned with organizational goals. 

  • Craft and represent a strong value proposition for non-members. 

  • Create and manage campaigns for recruitment, onboarding, and renewal. 

  • Track KPIs related to membership on a regular basis. 

Data Management 

  • Maintain accurate and updated membership information, including contact information, credentials, and other pertinent information. 

  • Contribute to MOPHI’s Constituent Relationship Manager (CRM, Bloomerang), ensuring accuracy and timeliness. 

  • Collaborate with internal staff to support membership operations broadly. 

Leadership and Collaboration  

  • Serve as the main voice of the membership needs and priorities to internal and external stakeholders so that organizational decisions are made in ways to support members and their needs 

  • Work cross-functionally to integrate membership goals into broader organizational initiatives. 

  • Represent the organization and the membership at events, conferences, and other strategic opportunities.  

Note on Future State 

Our organization is actively exploring other opportunities to host other types of membership associations. As opportunities arise, this position will be expected to be at the forefront of these efforts including but not limited to developing project plans, contributing to funding applications, hiring staff, and planning and executing communications and recruitment efforts. This position may be responsible for supporting other membership associations brought into the MOPHI organization either directly or through the hiring and supervision of future direct report(s). 

Desired Candidate Qualities  

Ideal  

  • 7 years of relevant experience managing a high-touch membership association of approximately the same size or larger 

  • Ability to build relationships and trust with others quickly 

  • Experience with building and executing iterative and transparent opportunities participatory decision making 

  • Operate independently 

  • Previous experience supervising 1-3 full-time staff 

Required

  • 5 years of relevant experience managing a high-touch membership association of approximately the same size or larger  

  • Must be able to travel to in-person meetings throughout the state of Missouri on a regular basis  

  • Must possess a reliable personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, and proof of insurance 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
