Position Title: Barista/Culinary Associate for Elixir
Position Description:
The Museum of Kansas City is hiring Baristas/Culinary Associates for Elixir, the Museum’s Soda Fountain area. This 690-square-foot café seats 18-20 people and is located downstairs at Corinthian Hall, adjacent to a prep kitchen and on the same floor as the Billiard Room, restrooms, and a catering kitchen.
Elixir offers:
- A menu of grab-and-go pre-packaged and ready-to-serve food and beverage items such as salads, charcuterie plates, cookies, chips, sodas, juices, and more.
- A menu of prepared food and beverage items including ice cream scoops, sundaes, phosphates, coffee and espresso drinks, tea, wine, beer, select cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.
Customers can enjoy their food and beverages inside Elixir or take their items to go (weather permitting).
Elixir’s Hours of Operation:
- Thursday: 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (4 hours)
- Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (5.5 hours)
- Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (5.5 hours)
- Sunday: Noon – 4:30 p.m. (4.5 hours)
Elixir’s hours and menu will increase strategically over time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Open and close the café daily, following established procedures.
- Make and serve espresso, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, ice cream scoops, sundaes, phosphates, etc.
- Serve prepackaged and ready-to-serve food items (sandwiches, salads, cookies, muffins, pastries, etc.).
- Restock supplies and keep track of inventory.
- Operate café equipment and use the point-of-sale system to process purchases.
- Follow cleaning protocols and maintain the cleanliness of the café.
Position Details:
- This is a part-time, non-exempt position.
- Anticipated hours: 10-20 per week.
- Starting hourly rate: $16/hour (tips are additional).
Qualification Requirements:
- 2+ years in the restaurant industry.
- Prior server training and alcohol responsibility training and current food handler license preferred.
- Experience as a barista and bartender, with knowledge of making espresso drinks and alcoholic beverages.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and opening/closing procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be part of a team, and multitask.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
