Metro Lutheran Ministry seeks a dynamic, motivated candidate for the position of Housing Case Manager - DV RRH, supporting clients of the MLM Rapid Re-Housing Program for literally homeless households who are survivors of domestic violence in Jackson & Wyandotte Counties. For 54 years, MLM has provided emergency and supportive services to low-income, homeless, and at-risk households in the greater Kansas City area. The Housing Case Manager is an integral part of the MLM team.
The Housing Case Manager works directly with homeless individuals, families, youth, who are survivors of intimate partner violence through MLM's Rapid Re-Housing program serving Jackson & Wyandotte Counties. Services include the provision of private, state, and federally funded rapid re-housing assistance, paired with related case management and supportive services. The position provides medium to long term strengths based case management and services promoting housing security and economic stability, including goal planning and safety planning, landlord outreach and advocacy, and connection to mainstream supports and resources. Each household receives 1-24 months of personalized support through the program. The average caseload is 22-25 households at a point in time, though this may fluctuate dependent upon household size and grant capacity. The case manager will promote each service participant’s strengths and advance well-being, utilizing a trauma informed, person centered, Housing First approach, with the goal of facilitating progression to long-term housing stability.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday; 8:30am – 5:00pm; some weekends or evenings as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Case Manager shall possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate patience and kindness while working under pressure, delivering quality service. A positive attitude, being a hard worker, and a willingness to take on tasks that may pivot is vital. Attention to detail, and the ability to work with multiple local, state, and federal programming regulations and data systems is vital to the success of the incumbent candidate.
The Case Manager will support homeless and formerly homeless survivors of intimate partner violence, utilizing a strengths-based, trauma informed model, by performing the following:
• Assess needs to determine type and length of assistance utilizing progressive engagement strategies to support household in achieving individual service and safety planning goals
• Advocate for participants with landlords and utility companies
• Establish landlord relationships through outreach and advocacy
• Perform housing inspections as needed
• Provide person-centered, strengths-based case management, utilizing a low-barrier, trauma informed Housing First model
• Connect participants to appropriate community resources, such as financial assistance, mental health treatment, housing, employment, healthcare, and others as identified by need
• Collaborate with community partners to ensure that interventions and community support services are available and easily accessible
• Outreach and connect with community resources in Wyandotte & Jackson Counties to recruit inkind donations to benefit clients served
• Provide supportive services including case management, budget counseling, connection to mainstream benefits, and other necessary services, to support stability
• Facilitate connection to internal MLM programming, including employment & financial coaching, pantry, and other services
• Enter & maintain written and online HMIS & other database participant case files in accordance with program & funder requirements
• Accurately perform reporting and compliance duties in a timely fashion
• Attend Coordinated Entry, Continuum of Care, or other community partner meetings as scheduled
• Provide outreach assistance and services to literally homeless households
• Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Health, or Psychology preferred, but not required. Two years of case management experience, preferably working with homeless or at-risk households who are survivors of domestic violence, or a combination of education and experience is preferred. Experience in crisis response is preferred. Basic budgeting & goal planning experience is preferred. Ability to work positively with a vulnerable and diverse client population, volunteers, and staff is required. Current KS/MO driver’s license and proof of insurance (must submit to driving record and criminal background check). Bi-lingual staffing is preferred.
This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. Salary Range: $45,000-$52,000, DOQ
