Senior Client Advocate

SUMMARY:        General responsibilities include the oversight and provision of the coordination of services and/or referral to other human service agencies shall be provided to those clients determined to be in need of and receptive of this service.  Prioritization of services shall be given to the Latino seniors to overcome the language barrier in their interaction with staff.  The day-to-day operation of the program shall be administered in accordance of Agency philosophy and policies/procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (will include the following but not be limited to):

  1.  Responsible for the day to day operation of the Program, which includes verbal and written communications, completion of necessary forms and paperwork, assisting and working with other Agency staff in the management of the Program.
  2. Provide client service supportive functions- both verbal and written, in the English language or Spanish language as necessary i.e. advocacy, case monitoring, family guidance and support, assist with completion of benefit applications, etc.
  3. Develop a broad network of professionals and governmental & community-based agencies available to serve and assist in meeting the myriad of needs of the Center clients, particularly the Latino seniors.
  4. Provide support and assistance, when necessary, to Center staff including the Center Director, Senior Care Coordinators and the Program Specialist. 
  5. Participate in the development and the maintenance of the Program computer database for collecting, evaluating and streamlining various components of the program.  Review and updates of a systematic resource bank will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
  6. Attend and participate in professional growth workshops and seminars to enhance skill level in providing the services and coordination of the Program.
  7. Coordinate and/or conduct special projects or classes for seniors, as assigned, i.e. assist with Holiday Friends Project, conduct or interpret health & wellness class in Spanish .
  8. Daily duties shall include participation as part of the Center’s team responsibilities that include tasks such as: direct physical assistance for a client, ie. Restroom or dining room; delivery of senior commodity food boxes to an automobile, etc. 
  9. Assist with other reasonable tasks upon request.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS (will include the following but not be limited to):

Education, Experience & Licensure-
  1. Minimum of two years professional experience in human services, social work, community relations or similar field.  Experience in working with the elderly and persons with disabilities preferred.
  2. Undergraduate degree in social work, counseling, human services, or similar field required.
  3. Effective communication skills required.
  4. Practical working knowledge of computer and other standard office equipment required.
  5. Must have valid driver’s license and maintain current automobile insurance for use of personal vehicle.  Additionally, shall be listed on the Agency’s insurance policy for use of Agency vehicles as may be necessary.
  6. Must have valid First Aid/CPR certification or training provided as necessary.
  7. Must meet approval of Agency’s background reference check as required for this position.
