Building a More Resilient and Sustainable Revenue Strategy
This practical and interactive session will explore how nonprofits can strengthen long-term sustainability by diversifying revenue streams and reducing funding concentration risk. Diversified revenue has been consistently identified as a key approach for reducing exposure to funding disruptions and strengthening organizational resilience.
Participants will learn to evaluate their current funding mix, identify growth opportunities, and build a more balanced portfolio of support through individual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, planned giving, earned revenue, events, endowments, and other mission-aligned strategies.
The session will highlight common mistakes organizations make when pursuing new funding sources, strategies for gaining board and leadership buy-in, and practical steps to create a sustainable revenue plan without chasing every opportunity.
Attendees will leave with actionable ideas to:
- Assess their organization's revenue concentration risk
- Identify gaps and opportunities within their funding portfolio
- Align fundraising, philanthropy, and financial strategy
- Avoid common diversification pitfalls
Whether your organization is heavily dependent on grants, events, a handful of major donors, or a single funding stream, this session will provide practical tools to create greater stability, flexibility, and long-term mission impact.
