Securing Financial Futures: Agency Funds and Donor-Advised Funds at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

Securing Financial Futures: Agency Funds and Donor-Advised Funds at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

Community foundations have existed for more than 100 years, and the more than 700 foundations in the U.S. serve their communities in unique ways. Kansas City is home to several community foundations, including one of the largest in the country, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.

What role does the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation play in Kansas City’s nonprofit ecosystem? And how can your organization benefit from the services it provides?

Nicole Stuke, Philanthropic Advisor at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, will provide a brief history and overview of the Community Foundation’s work and then explain the ins and outs of two types of charitable investment accounts the Community Foundation offers. Specifically, donor-advised funds, which are used by individuals, families and companies to make charitable donations, and agency funds, which are used by nonprofit organizations to build long-term assets and hold reserve funds. With more than 20 years of experience leading large nonprofit organizations, Nicole will speak to the challenges many nonprofit organizations face each day.

Participants will leave this session with:

  • Background knowledge on the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
  • An understanding of how nonprofits can best work with donors who give using donor-advised funds (most relevant for development professionals)
  • Information about agency funds, and how an agency fund can provide low-cost investment options to nonprofits (most relevant for finance professionals)
This is a program of the Fundraising Fundamentals series.
