KC Special Needs Planning Conference Returns in 2026 as Expanded Two-Day Event
Overland Park, Kansas — 02/25/2026 — The Heartland Special Needs Foundation is proud to announce the return of the KC Special Needs Planning Conference, an educational and networking event dedicated to empowering professionals, families, and advocates who serve individuals with disabilities. Following the success of its inaugural event in 2025, the 2026 conference will expand to a two-day format, offering enhanced learning opportunities, expanded vendor resources, and deeper community engagement.

The conference will be held May 4–5, 2026, at the Overland Park Convention Center, bringing together nationally recognized attorneys, financial planners, healthcare professionals, fiduciaries, and service providers who specialize in special needs planning. The event is designed to deliver practical strategies, current legal and financial updates, and collaborative solutions that improve quality of life and long-term stability for individuals with disabilities.

The inaugural conference in 2025 drew strong attendance from lawyers, financial planners and experts in the special needs community throughout the Midwest, donating the proceeds to support the Heartland Special Needs Foundation’s charitable mission. Those funds help provide grants and expand access to education and planning resources.

“The KC Special Needs Planning Conference was created to bring top-tier education to the Midwest,” said Samantha Shepherd, founder of the Heartland Special Needs Foundation and Chair of the Conference Planning Committee. “We saw firsthand how impactful it was for families and professionals to access this level of expertise locally, and we’re excited to expand the conference to serve even more people in 2026.”

Conference Highlights Include:

  • Educational sessions led by nationally recognized experts in special needs trusts, disability law, and financial planning
  • Continuing education opportunities for attorneys, financial professionals, and related disciplines
  • Exhibitor booths featuring service providers, nonprofit organizations, and community resources
  • Networking opportunities with professionals and advocates across the Midwest
  • A closing networking reception at the conclusion of Day Two
Proceeds from the conference directly support the Heartland Special Needs Foundation, a Kansas City–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to funding special needs trusts, providing education, and strengthening the disability community through outreach and connection.

Sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are currently available, and the conference planning committee welcomes community partners interested in supporting the event.
