About The Dogwood House

The Dogwood House is a faith-based nonprofit in the Kansas City metro focused on providing transitional housing and independent living support for women rebuilding their lives after trafficking, exploitation, and trauma.

Our mission is to create a safe, dignified place where women can continue moving forward after completing long-term recovery programs — bridging the gap between recovery and full independence.

We are currently building a strong founding Board of Directors composed of experienced, mission-driven leaders who are passionate about restoration, strategic growth, and sustainable impact.


Position Overview

The Treasurer serves as the financial oversight leader of the Board of Directors and works closely with organizational leadership to help ensure financial accountability, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

As a founding board leader, the Treasurer will help establish the financial structure, stewardship practices, and operational foundation of the organization.

This role is ideal for a strategic and financially minded leader who is passionate about helping build a mission-driven organization with lasting community impact.


Responsibilities

  • Provide financial oversight and accountability for the organization
  • Review budgets, financial reports, and financial planning efforts
  • Support the development of sustainable financial strategies
  • Help ensure appropriate financial policies and controls are established
  • Assist with board-level financial reporting and transparency
  • Support fundraising growth and long-term sustainability planning
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board leadership on organizational growth

Ideal Experience

Preferred candidates may have experience in:

  • Accounting, finance, banking, or business leadership
  • CPA, CFO, controller, or financial management roles
  • Nonprofit financial oversight or board service
  • Budget development and strategic financial planning
  • Governance and organizational leadership

Prior board experience is strongly preferred.


Expectations

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend regular board meetings
  • Serve as active ambassadors for the organization
  • Participate in fundraising and strategic growth efforts
  • Make an annual personal financial contribution
  • Support the mission and values of The Dogwood House
