Controller (Working Manager) Position Summary
Benilde Hall is seeking a highly capable Controller (Working Manager) to lead the organization’s day-to-day financial operations while serving as a financial thought partner to the Executive Director. This is primarily a hands-on accounting role responsible for financial accuracy, compliance, reporting, and strengthening financial infrastructure.
This position is designed for a strong accounting professional who can both perform the work and improve the systems behind it. While the primary responsibility is operational accounting leadership, the role will also support financial planning, infrastructure development, and organizational sustainability efforts as Benilde Hall continues to grow. It is a working leadership role focused on execution, process improvement, and financial stability, with the opportunity to grow into expanded financial leadership responsibilities as the organization evolves.
The ideal candidate is practical, accountable, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to stabilize financial operations today while helping position the organization for long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations (Primary Responsibility – Working Manager)
• Lead day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll coordination, and reconciliations
• Personally perform core accounting functions while improving workflows and documentation
• Ensure financial accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of reporting
• Maintain organized financial documentation and audit readiness
• Strengthen accounting processes and internal financial controls
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards
• May supervise finance support staff as organizational needs evolve
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Lead the monthly financial close process
• Prepare financial statements and internal reporting packages
• Support preparation of financial reports for the Executive Director and Board
• Assist with budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis
• Help translate financial data into clear, actionable information
• Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities
Fund Accounting, Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure proper tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds
• Strengthen grant financial tracking processes
• Support annual audit preparation and external financial reviews
• Help strengthen internal controls and risk mitigation practices
• Support compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting requirements
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning Support
• Assist in development of organizational budgets
• Support financial forecasting activities
• Provide financial modeling to support operational decisions
• Help identify financial risks early
• Support long-term financial planning efforts
Financial Infrastructure & Organizational Support
• Strengthen financial systems and infrastructure to support growth
• Support the Executive Director in financial decision-making
• Help improve financial processes across departments
• Assist in development of financial policies and procedures
• Support revenue diversification efforts through financial analysis
• Help leadership understand financial capacity for program growth
• Act as internal financial subject matter expert for accounting practices
Organizational Partnership
• Serve as a trusted financial resource to the Executive Director
• Support a culture of financial accountability across the organization
• Work collaboratively with program and operations leadership
• Demonstrate sound judgment and professional confidence in financial recommendations
• Support operational decision-making through financial insight

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 5–9 years of progressive accounting experience preferred
• Experience managing accounting operations required
• Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
• Fund accounting experience preferred
• Experience supporting audits preferred
• Experience improving financial processes or systems preferred
• Experience supporting budgeting or financial planning preferred
• Prior supervision experience helpful but not required

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
