Hours per week: 40 hrs
 
General Description
The Staff Accountant is responsible for recording accounting and financial transactions for the organization.  This includes performing cash management tasks such as recording cash and credit card charges, scanning deposits to the bank and reconciling petty cash. This position is also responsible for recording monthly journal entries and performing fiscal year-end processes.  Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure finances are accurate and up to date.
 
Essential Job Functions

  1. Record and post daily payments received to various customer accounts/invoices, and code checks received
  2. Handling day-to-day accounting tasks, reconciling accounts, and assisting with daily, monthly and annual accounting tasks.
  3. Preparing accurate and timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts and bank statements.
  4. Serve as backup to the Accounts Payable Clerk
  5. Review and post monthly journal entries prepared by the CFO.
  6. Complete quarterly petty cash reconciliations and replenish when necessary
  7. Responsible for completing a monthly check list to ensure that all monthly tasks have been completed prior to month-end close deadline
  8. Assist Department Managers in creating annual program/department budgets.
  9. Perform periodic audits of staff reimbursement requests and VISA receipts/transactions.
  10. Perform the creation and mailing of annual 1099’s to contractors and other 1099 qualifiers as identified by the IRS
  11. Assists with the preparation of various audit reports and/or schedules, as assigned
  12. Complete special projects/analysis as requested or assigned
  13. Regular and predictable attendance
  14. Maintain confidentiality of all work-related matters
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline required
  • Extensive knowledge of general ledger accounting
  • Proficiency in using accounting software
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to GAAP
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  This is largely a sedentary role.
