Strategic Consultation: Mission/Vision Development & Establishing Guiding Principles
Purpose
The Garney Foundation for Sustainable Futures is seeking a qualified individual or organization to help us refine our mission and vision statements, define key areas of focus and establish guiding principles that reflect the Foundation’s values.

About The Garney Foundation for Sustainable Futures
As part of Garney’s commitment to philanthropy, the foundation was formed in 2023 to embody Garney’s Goals & Philosophies. The foundation aims to support causes that are important to Garney employees, support water related endeavors in the charitable sector and provide Garney employees an opportunity to participate in the foundation’s work.
Background
The foundation is tax exempt under IRC Section 501(c)(3). Two programs currently operate within the foundation:
- Employee to Employee (E2E) Program: providing financial assistance to eligible employees and their families in times of need.
- Water Service Projects Program: providing funding for water projects, domestically and internationally, while offering employees the opportunity to participate in these projects, hands-on.
Scope of Work
We are looking for a consultant to work collaboratively with Garney employees to develop a clear and impactful mission and vision statement, identify key areas of focus, and create a set of core principles to help guide decision-making and operations within the foundation. Consultant will work at the direction of and report directly to the Foundation Board.
Selection Criteria
Decisions will be made based on the following:
- Relevant Experience: Proven track record in developing vision and mission statements for similar organizations or foundations
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with corporate foundations and understanding of philanthropic trends
- Financial Planning and Management: Experience in providing guidance for fundraising and investment strategies, including financial reporting for 501(c)3 compliance and maintenance of tax-exempt status
- Strategic Planning: Experience in strategic planning processes and stakeholder engagement
- Collaborative Process: Ability to engage with stakeholders to gather input
- Customization: Willingness to tailor approach to fit our unique context and goals
- Values Alignment: Alignment with Garney’s Goals & Philosophies
- Creativity/Inspiration: Ability to propose innovative/inspiring ideas
Proposal Requirements
In your proposal, please provide the following:
- Experience in the type of work described above including how you might approach the work
- Existing partnerships and/or connections that are relevant to this work
- Basic information about the individuals doing the work
- Proposed budget and fee structure
- Proposed project timeline
- Values that guide your organization or your approach to work
- Contact information for three references who can speak to your experience with similar work
Proposals may be submitted as a PDF (1-3 pages), PowerPoint (up to 10 slides), or video format (5-7 min).

Selection and Timing
- Mid-February: Proposals will be reviewed, and finalists selected. All applicants are notified whether they are finalists or not.
- Late-February: Finalists will provide any additional information required for board consideration and participate in Teams interview.
- Early-March: Finalists will be notified whether they were selected.
We anticipate work would start Spring 2025
