Position Summary:
The Academic Coordinator at House of Hope plays a central role in supporting the educational progress and emotional well-being of our students, many of whom have experienced trauma.  The AC’s primary goal is to lead the school team in providing a safe, Christ-centered school environment for House of Hope KC. This will happen by partnering with our Online School Partner, overseeing the structure and disciplinary measures within the school, and ensuring that every aspect of the school embodies the core values of House of Hope (Gospel Saturation, Compassionate and Consistent, Hopeful, Excellence).  This position blends academic advising, therapeutic support, behavior management, tutoring, and staff supervision to help students succeed in an alternative school setting.



Primary Position Responsibilities:
 
Academic Oversight

  • Monitor students’ progress in online schooling platforms and ensure they are on track with coursework.
  • Develop and implement individualized academic plans in collaboration with therapeutic and residential staff.
  • Provide tutoring in core subjects and school skills.
  • Create and maintain structures such as starting to-do lists, progress tracking, and daily routines alongside the school team
 
Student Support
  • Build trusting, trauma-informed relationships with students.
  • Help students identify and navigate barriers to academic and personal growth.
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching and teach advocacy skills.
  • Offer encouragement, accountability, and individualized strategies to foster student independence.
 
Staff Collaboration & Supervision:
  • Lead and support academic team members, including staff and volunteer tutors.
  • Communicate effectively with therapists, residential staff, and leadership to align academic and therapeutic goals.
  • Provide training or mentoring for new academic team members as needed.
 
Administrative Support
  • Primary Contact with Online Partner School
  • Supervise documentation for Daily Shift Reports with State guidelines and ensure all staff has access to documentation on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate with activities coordinator on scheduling and documenting all emergency preparedness drills
  • Review any potential residents alongside HOH lead team
  • Enroll students in Online Partner School and Collaborate with previous schools, districts, and placement partners to coordinate records and support planning.
  • Communicate with Parents regularly regarding school progress, strengths, and concerns
 
Behavior Support
  • In partnership with school staff, monitor all laptops used by residents for any improper use of online activity.
  • Oversee the establishment of proper disciplinary actions and execution of those actions in collaboration with the school team. 
  • Responsible for communicating with counselors on any concerning trends and/or growth patterns in a particular resident related to their academic progress.
 
Program Development & Improvement
  • Identify needs and suggest improvements to curriculum, structure, or resources.
  • Integrate faith-informed and values-based components where appropriate.
  • Direct the summer programing and the inclusion of projects, life skill development, career opportunities, and field trips
  • Design or lead student-centered projects with educational or therapeutic impact.

  • High School diploma, some college preferred.
  • At least 2 years working/volunteering in a ministry or nonprofit context
Salary range - $37-39K - full time - PTO available
