Community Engagement Specialist - Youth Programs

Reports to the President of the Board, John Prutsman Part-Time Position; 10 to 15 hours weekly

Summary: The Youth Engagement Developer is responsible for cultivating high school students to join the Kindness Youth Leadership team, fostering relationships with high and middle schools in the greater KC socio-economically disadvantaged schools. This role focuses on integrating SevenDays kindness resources into the schools' daily educational programs and encouraging adoption of the Kindness Walk and Kindness Club initiatives. This role must have passion for our KC youth to help them overcome “hate” in their communities by being a ripple of kindness in their actions.

Experience Needed:
1. Youth Engagement and Leadership Development:
    • Proven experience working with high school and middle school students in socio-economic disadvantaged areas, preferably in leadership or mentorship roles.
    • Background in youth development programs or education.
2. Educational Program Implementation:
    • Experience in collaborating with educators to integrate supplemental resources into school curricula.
    • Understanding of the challenges faced by schools in lower socio-economic regions.
3. Relationship Building:
    • Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with schools, educators, and community organizations.
    • Ability to build rapport and trust with diverse communities.
4. Nonprofit or Social Impact Work:
    • Prior experience in a nonprofit or philanthropic organization, particularly one focused on youth, education, or community outreach.

1. Relationship Builder through networking and strong inter-personal communication:
    • Can build relationships quickly resulting in long-term trusted partnerships with leaders in the school district administrations and in the middle and high schools.
    • Ability to lead presentations and workshops for students and educators.
2. Organizational Skills:
    • Ability to manage multiple schools and initiatives simultaneously, ensuring timely program implementation and follow-up.
    • Can lead and partner with other organizations to plan events for the youth.
3. Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Skills in working with educators, school administrators, and fellow team members to align program goals and implementation strategies.
4. Empathy and Cultural Competence:
    • Ability to understand and navigate the unique needs of students and schools in under-resourced areas.
    • Knowledge of community outreach strategies to encourage participation.
