Position Overview
The Executive Director is the chief administrator and public face of the Foundation. This role provides strategic leadership, oversees fundraising and community engagement, manages daily operations, and ensures financial integrity. The Executive Director works closely with the Foundation’s Executive Committee and Full Council, the Park Hill School District, and community partners to advance the Foundation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Foundation in alignment with its mission, strategic goals, and bylaws.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Park Hill School District, donors, and community partners.
- Oversee all fundraising and development efforts, including the Friends of the Foundation program and major events.
- Work with the Foundation’s Treasurer and Finance Committee and manage the organization’s budget, finances, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Communicate effectively with the Executive Committee and Full Council, providing timely information and reports.
- Direct all marketing and advertising strategies across print, digital, social media, and website platforms.
- Oversee daily operations, policies, and administrative procedures to ensure efficiency and accountability.
- Represent the Foundation professionally and positively at community events and in public communications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or equivalent nonprofit leadership experience preferred.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, education, fundraising, or related field.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor relations.
- Strong financial management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Significant familiarity with the Kansas City region and communities within the Park Hill School District.
Performance & Reporting
The Executive Director reports to the Foundation’s Executive Committee and Full Council and is evaluated annually based on leadership, fundraising performance, financial stewardship, community relations, and mission advancement.
Compensation & Work Environment
- Salary Range: Commensurate with experience, anticipated range begins at approximately $80,000. Competitive within the regional nonprofit sector.
- Benefits: The benefits package may be customized to meet the needs of the successful candidate and may include the ability to participate in the district’s health, vision, and dental plans, paid vacation and holidays, and employer retirement contribution.
- Work Environment: Office-based with flexibility for some remote work and a flexible schedule. The role involves occasional attendance at events that may fall outside of normal working hours.
Environment
- The duties are performed most often in an office environment and facilities within the district office, and other locations as needed from time to time (indoor frequently, outdoor occasionally).
- Duties include demanding timelines, especially involving the Foundation’s major annual events and the awarding of scholarships and grants.
- Subject to frequent interruptions and daily contact with Park Hill staff, donors, council members, and community partners.
Physical Demands
- Ability to push, pull, and transport materials up to ten (10) lbs. on a regular basis and up to forty (40) lbs. occasionally, and ability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach on occasion.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand.
- Ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct business.
- Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 20% walking, and 10% standing.
- The Foundation will provide reasonable accommodations and support when necessary.
Working Conditions
- Extended viewing of computer monitors and audio/visual equipment, and working with and around office equipment having moving parts.
