Chief Human Resources Officer

Location: The Whole Person – Kansas City, Missouri

Reports To: Executive Leadership Committee Chief Administrative Officer
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary
The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the Human Resources function, including overseeing Front Desk Reception staff and Grants & Fund Development programs and employees. The CHRO ensures the development and implementation of HR policies and practices that support the organization's goals and promote a positive work environment. This role involves managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Essential Functions

  1. Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  2. Oversee the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization attracts and hires qualified candidates.
  3. Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and investigations.
  4. Develop and implement performance management systems to ensure employees meet organizational goals.
  5. Oversee training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career development.
  6. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  7. Manage compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices.
  8. Oversee Front Desk Reception staff and ensure efficient and professional service delivery.
  9. Provide strategic oversight for the Grants & Fund Development program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with funding requirements.
  10. Prepare and present reports to the Executive Leadership Committee on HR metrics and initiatives.
  11. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes employee engagement and satisfaction.
 
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in HR management roles.
  3. Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Experience in managing Front Desk Reception staff and Grants & Fund Development programs.
  3. Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).

Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position involves a combination of office-based work and occasional travel to meet with employees, attend meetings, and support organizational initiatives. The role requires the ability to work in a dynamic environment that may occasionally involve interacting with unpredictable situations. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and adapting to changing circumstances. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel locally are essential.
