The League of Kansas Municipalities is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Public Finance Specialist to join our team. As a Public Finance Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing expert advice and support to municipalities across the state of Kansas on a wide range of financial and budgetary matters. In addition to assisting our member cities, you will also develop and deliver educational programs and advocate for the interests of Kansas municipalities before the state legislature. Responsibilities of the Public Finance Specialist

  • Provide expert guidance and technical assistance to member cities on a broad range of public finance and budgeting topics, including revenue generation, expenditure management, and financial reporting.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of financial trends and legislation impacting Kansas municipalities.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs and training workshops on municipal finance and budgeting best practices for city officials.
  • Collaborate with the League's legislative team to analyze proposed legislation and assess potential financial impacts on municipalities.
  • Advocate for the interests of Kansas municipalities before the state legislature by providing testimony, building relationships with legislators, and developing effective communication strategies.
  • Stay current on relevant developments in public finance law, regulations, and best practices to ensure accurate and up-to-date guidance is provided to members.
  • Other job-related duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Public Finance or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one years of experience in municipal finance or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information in an understandable manner.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programs or training sessions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with local government officials.
  • Experience testifying before legislative bodies.
Benefits and Salary
The League offers outstanding benefits and a flexible work environment. Benefits include KPERS, health/dental/life insurance, EAP, HRA, FSA, an optional deferred compensation program or ROTH with matching funds, parental leave, and paid leave and holidays. The salary range is $63,000 - $83,000 allowing us to account for qualifications and experience and is commensurate with experience.
