Legal Aid of Western Missouri seeks a paralegal to support our family law team at our Central office in Kansas City. The family law paralegal assists our attorneys in representing survivors of domestic violence, with a primary focus on obtaining adult and child orders of protection.  The paralegal screens and interviews potential clients, presents information to attorneys for review, creates and organizes attorney files, follows up with clients regarding their cases in a timely manner, drafts documents, gathers records for use in evidence, attends court dockets to assist with client management, acts as a liaison between Legal Aid and our partner agencies, and performs other duties as assigned. This position requires a high level of organization and ability to meet quick deadlines. 
The qualified candidate must have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, certificate in paralegal studies or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal communication principles and practices
  • Experience in the relevant area of law helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required.
  • General competency in Word and Excel
Salary: $24.35/hour + DOE
