POSITION SUMMARY: Welcomes refugees and other ORR-eligible clients who recently moved to Kansas or have been granted asylum through completing intakes, making referrals, and connecting clients to services. Assist clients in reaching self-sufficiency and addressing their ongoing needs. This includes providing case management for Employability Services clients, and providing Adjustment and Referral (A&R) services or short-term case management to walk-in clients. Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings through the services outlined in the Refugee Support Services (RSS) Grant. (EEO).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide case management services for a caseload of refugees and immigrants participating in the RSS program.
  • Ensure participants are well versed in their RSS Program rights, responsibilities and ensure services are well-documented and track a participants' progress in electronic case files.
  • Adhere to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and in-house guidelines on service provision and documentation.
  • Learns and implements guidelines of services for the RSS Program set forth by the ORR and Kansas Office for Refugees (KSOR) and stays up-to-date on relevant developments and public policies that affect refugees.
  • Applies strengths-based approach in case management in efforts to support clients to obtain self-sufficiency.
  • Receives referrals for case management for ORR-eligible clients and participates in any needed case conference meetings to assure continuity of care.
  • Assesses client needs, works with the client to create Family Self-Sufficiency Plans (FSSPs), and regularly meets with a caseload of Employability clients to focus on removing employment barriers, leading to the attainment of self-sufficiency.
  • Collaborates with Employment Team to discuss caseload to assure proper priority for services, discuss clients’ readiness for job placement.
  • Responds to walk-in client requests to address needs, providing referrals and appropriate follow-up.
  •  Conduct home and field visit assignments as needed and in accordance with agency health and safety protocol.
  •  Maintains professional conduct with clients as identified in the NASW Code of Ethics and abides by all program policies and procedures and acts as a mandated reporter.
  •  Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required.
  •  Other duties as assigned.
 MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work or human service field or comparable experience is preferred
  • Must have competency in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English; fluency in a second language (Burmese, Karen, Dari, Swahili, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment
  • Knowledge of public policy and how it affects refugees and similar immigrants
  • Strong typing and internet skills as well as the ability to learn Microsoft Outlook, Excel and various database programs
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with outside agencies and advocate on behalf of the clients
  • Must be reliable, punctual, professional, and respond appropriately to people in crisis
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, a verified safe driving record and reliable means of transportation for local travel; must provide a copy of license and insurance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must have the physical ability to make visits to a variety of environments that may include walking on rough terrain and climbing stairs
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
